The “Happy Society”

The inscription refers to as “Company of the joy”, founded by John Wood and his friends. The regulation, consisting of three articles, provided that members should behave like a Christian, do their duties and religious schools and, above all, be merry. All parties, after school, went to the church of San Antonio, to hear the catechism of the Jesuit fathers.

Albergo del Muletto

This building was located at the bottom of Piazza San Bernardino, along the main road, and was owned by Mark Balbiano of Andezeno. The restaurant was to be a certain elegance, though they stopped there in 1856 Prince Umberto and his entourage. After John Bosco challenged and defeated a professional acrobat, near Turin Porta, rather than accept the 240 pounds won, defeating the proposed offer of lunch at the Hotel del Fork lift him and his twenty-two classmates, making acrobat to spend only 45 pounds.
